Stayed away from OTT for five years due to abusive language and nudity: Rajpal Yadav

- Rishabh Suri

Actor Maanvi Gagroo has a host of OTT projects in hand, including the third seasons of both

and Tripling, and a web film. However, she has cut down on films, which is especially surprising as one expected her to go on a signing spree, after her act in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020) received good reviews.

However, Gagroo says, “I am not averse to doing anything else, but right now there is so much six years ago, I was extremely dissatisfied with the kind of roles I was getting. I am now more content, but I believe there is always room for improvement,” replies Gagroo.

Does the actor feel she has reached a position where she can finally say a ‘no’ comfortably? Gagroo explains, “I have always been open to saying no, especially if it was something I was very sure I didn’t want to do. Earlier, I would do certain things I was not excited about — things you would do just to keep yourself busy, money or to run your household and I would convince myself.”

Actor Rajpal Yadav is known for his comic timing in films such as Phir Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhaag, Chup Chup Ke (all 2006) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), among others. While many actors have been excited about exploring the web space, he marked his OTT debut only recently with the short film, Ardh. Talking about this new chapter of his career, he says, “Now, I am shooting for another one. There are three more shows lined up. My concept of a web project is that it should be meaningful, yet entertaining.”

While he enjoys the OTT space, the 51-year-old works on one condition: “People should be able to watch it with their family”. He elaborates that he isn’t keen on featuring in any project that contains abusive language or nudity. “This is what kept me away from OTT for five years. Main OTT ki bahut izzat karta hoon. Kala jitni bikharti hai, utni nikharti hai. TV aur 70mm ke beech mein ek yeh concept aaya, lekin usmein bhi do raaste hain. Either you can sit alone to watch it or watch it with your family,” says the actor, adding that he enjoys the latter type of content.

He keeps the familyfriendly factor in mind while screening web projects. “Iss baat ka vishesh dhyaan rakhne ki koshish kar raha hoon ki jo bhi show ho, family entertain ho sake. Baaki jo gaali-galauj ki web series hain, main unka virodhi nahin hoon. There is an audience for it, too. There’s nothing wrong or right when it comes to art,” the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor ends.
