Woman gang raped in hotel, 2 booked: Cops

The police in Dholpur is currently searching for an assistant to a lawyer and his colleague who have been booked for the alleged gang rape of a woman, officials close to the matter said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred on May 23 in a hotel, and the 25- year- old woman filed a complaint against the accused. The case falls under the jurisdicti­on of the City police station, and the woman lodged her complaint at the women’s police station. Police said it booked the accused under section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code. The investigat­ion has been assigned to Suresh Sankhala, the circle officer of Dholpur City, who took the woman to the district hospital for a medical examinatio­n. Her statement was also recorded before a magistrate, police said.

According to the complaint, the woman stated that after the death of her husband five years ago, she was accepted as his wife by her husband’s brother. However, he abandoned her just two months later. She initially filed a case against him in court but later changed her lawyer.

The prime accused allegedly lured her to a hotel where he called his colleague. They allegedly administer­ed an alcoholic substance to the woman, rendering her unconsciou­s, and then proceeded to gang rape her, she said in her complaint. After the assault, they left her at the hotel and fled the scene, she added.

“The police have registered a case under Section 376 and are taking appropriat­e action. The accused are currently absconding, but the police are actively searching for them,” said Suresh Sankhala. investigat­ion officer and Dholpur DSP.
