Robbery begins at home: Man held for looting own house

MUMBAI: A 37-year- old from has been arrested for stealing jewellery and other valuables, totally worth Rs4.25 lakh from his house in Koparkhair­ane.

The accused, Manish Savla, is a resident of Kalash Udyan in sector 11 and lived with his mother Hemlata, wife and grandmothe­r. He is a cloth trader.

Savla had gone missing from his house on May 5 and his family filed a missing complaint the next day the police said. A few days after that, they complained that gold and diamond jewellery, along with a laptop were missing.

While the police suspected that Savla had taken the valuables, his family refused to put the blame him.

“Savla came back home late at night on May 25. Following informatio­n given to us, we arrested him,” said Rajendra Sawant, assistant police inspector, Koparkhair­ane police station.

During the interrogat­ion, Savla reportedly confessed to stealing from his house. The police have recovered the laptop and some jewellery from him. He said he had gone away to his native place in Indore.

Sawant said, “It is not yet clear why he stole from his own house. We are checking if he had suffered any monetary losses or is an addict.”

Savla, who was earlier remanded in police custody till May 30, was remanded to further police custody till June 1 on being presented in court on Thursday.
