NAVI MUMBAI: More than 75% of Class 12 students from Navi Mumbai who appeared for the HSC exams passed. Results were declared on Thursday.

According to the state board data, 12,337 students (fresh and repeater candidates) registered for the exam, of which 12,259 appeared for the exam, and 9,281 of them ( 75.71%) cleared the exam.

Only two colleges acquired a cent percent result — Nerul’s SIES Junior College of Commerce and St Xavier’s High School and Junior College of Science, Nerul. Five colleges secured a pass percentage of over 95%.

Teachers, however, said the performance of the students has dipped this year. “The students have not fared as well as last year, the science section in the college has not given the best performance. I think this is because it is the first year the subjects were combined, and students probably had a tough time coping,” said a teacher from a college in Vashi, on the condition of anonymity.

Despite the dip, there were several success stories from the city. Sreelekshmi Pillai topped SIES Nerul with 91%, followed by Hiral Kathiria who scored 89.6% and Rishabh Jain who got 89.3%.

This was the sixth consecutive year that the Nerul college secured a 100% result, said Rita Basu, principal of the college. “This year, 257 students appeared for the exam. We are still evaluating and comparing the previous year’s statistics, but so far it seems like there has been an improvement,” said Basu.

At Belapur’s DY Patil College, Amit Pandey from the science stream scored a staggering 96.5% while Deepti Tarkar topped the commerce section with 83%.

St Mary’s Vashi recorded a pass percent of 99.77%, just missing the 100% result mark.

At Vashi’s Father Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College, the pass percentage this year was 99.21.

From the science section, Saurabh Jagtap topped the college, scoring 92.5%, and the commerce section topper was Bharat Choudhary, who scored 91.3%.

“From our college, of the 254 students who attended the exam, 252 students have passed, one student’s result has been reserved and one student from the commerce section has failed,” said an official from the college.
