There was a 70% rise in the number of dengue patients in public hospitals in the second week of October, compared to the first, as the city continues to battle the outbreak.

The week also recorded the city’s sixth dengue death — that of an 18-year-old Tardeo resident.

The man was being treated for dengue at Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central for four days, but succumbed to the infection on Sunday, after vomiting blood. “His liver was affected by the infection and he had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome,” said a civic official from the epidemiology cell.
