Dengue cases rise 70% in sec­ond week of Oct

There was a 70% rise in the num­ber of dengue pa­tients in public hos­pi­tals in the sec­ond week of Oc­to­ber, com­pared to the first, as the city con­tin­ues to bat­tle the out­break.

The week also recorded the city’s sixth dengue death — that of an 18-year-old Tardeo res­i­dent.

The man was be­ing treated for dengue at Nair Hos­pi­tal in Mum­bai Cen­tral for four days, but suc­cumbed to the in­fec­tion on Sun­day, af­ter vom­it­ing blood. “His liver was af­fected by the in­fec­tion and he had de­vel­oped acute res­pi­ra­tory dis­tress syn­drome,” said a civic of­fi­cial from the epi­demi­ol­ogy cell.
