Thane man held for killing wife
A 56-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for killing his 48-year-old wife. The accused hit his wife with an iron rod on her head. She succumbed to her injuries. A case was registered on Tuesday at Vartak Nagar police station.
According to the police, the accused, Hiralal Mali, 56, and his wife, Vimala Mali lived in Lokmanyapada number 4 in Thane (West).
The incident took place on Tuesday evening after a heated argument between Hiralal and his wife saw an enraged Hiralal hit his wife with an iron rod on her head.
She suffered severe injuries and was shifted to a civic hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. On Tuesday night, a case was registered with Vartak Nagar police station.
During investigation, the police found that the fight took place over an amount of Rs1 lakh, which their elder son had borrowed from the victim’s brother.
“We have arrested the accused who was produced in Thane court on Wednesday. During the investigation, we found the accused’s elder son, Ratan Mali had borrowed Rs1 lakh from his maternal uncle a few months ago.”
The woman had been asking her husband to return the cash as early as possible so that her brother would not harass them.
“Also, they would then have to borrow money for their younger son’s marriage. The argument dispute between the couple had been going on for a month. On Tuesday, it took a turn for the worse, when the accused got angry and hit her with iron rod,” said a police officer from Vartak Nagar police station.
A case has been registered at Vartak Nagar police station under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
