Thane man held for killing wife

A 56-year-old man was ar­rested on Tues­day for killing his 48-year-old wife. The ac­cused hit his wife with an iron rod on her head. She suc­cumbed to her in­juries. A case was reg­is­tered on Tues­day at Var­tak Na­gar po­lice sta­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the ac­cused, Hi­ralal Mali, 56, and his wife, Vi­mala Mali lived in Lok­manya­pada num­ber 4 in Thane (West).

The in­ci­dent took place on Tues­day evening af­ter a heated ar­gu­ment be­tween Hi­ralal and his wife saw an en­raged Hi­ralal hit his wife with an iron rod on her head.

She suf­fered se­vere in­juries and was shifted to a civic hos­pi­tal, where she later suc­cumbed to her in­juries. On Tues­day night, a case was reg­is­tered with Var­tak Na­gar po­lice sta­tion.

Dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion, the po­lice found that the fight took place over an amount of Rs1 lakh, which their el­der son had bor­rowed from the vic­tim’s brother.

“We have ar­rested the ac­cused who was pro­duced in Thane court on Wed­nes­day. Dur­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, we found the ac­cused’s el­der son, Ratan Mali had bor­rowed Rs1 lakh from his ma­ter­nal un­cle a few months ago.”

The woman had been ask­ing her hus­band to re­turn the cash as early as pos­si­ble so that her brother would not ha­rass them.

“Also, they would then have to bor­row money for their younger son’s mar­riage. The ar­gu­ment dis­pute be­tween the cou­ple had been go­ing on for a month. On Tues­day, it took a turn for the worse, when the ac­cused got an­gry and hit her with iron rod,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Var­tak Na­gar po­lice sta­tion.

A case has been reg­is­tered at Var­tak Na­gar po­lice sta­tion un­der sec­tion 302 (pun­ish­ment for mur­der) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.
