KALYAN: A house in Kalyan was robbed of gold ornaments and cash worth Rs1.12 lakh as the family was visiting Gulbarga in Karnataka for the engagement of their daughter. A case has been registered at Bazarpeth police station.

According to the police, Namdev Jadhav, who is in his early 40s, is a resident of Hire chawl in Shivaji Nagar, Beturkarpada, Kalyan (West). The robbery took place between Monday and Tuesday night.

The robbers took away gold ornaments worth Rs62,000 and cash worth Rs50,000.

“The Jadhav family was visiting Karnataka for the engagement of their daughter on Wednesday. Jadhav had asked his sister to keep a watch on the house,” said an officer from Bazarpeth police station.

“When Jadhav’s sister came to check the house on Tuesday, she found that the door locked was broken and gold ornaments and cash were missing from the house. We suspect the role of a local who may have kept a watch on the house. Investigation is on,” said the officer.

A case has been registered under sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or housebreaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 457 (lurking housetrespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment.) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code.

THE JADHAV FAMILY WAS VISITING KARNATAKA FOR THE ENGAGEMENT OF THEIR DAUGHTER ON WEDNESDAY WHEN THE ROBBERY HAPPENED.
