City to face water cuts today, supply will be low over weekend

The city will witness water cuts from 8am to 6pm on Friday as the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporatio­n (NMMC) will be undertakin­g post-monsoon repair and maintenanc­e work at the Bhokarpada water filtration plant. “The water cuts will affect Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Kopar Khairane, Ghansoli and Airoli,” said a water department official.

“While these areas will not get water supply on Friday from 8am to 6pm, the water supply on the following two days will be of low pressure,” he said.

The NMMC’s water department has appealed to residents to judiciousl­y use water during this period and cooperate with the civic body.

48-HOUR WATER CUT IN MIDC EVERY WEEK The Maharashtr­a Industrial Developmen­t Corporatio­n (MIDC) has announced a 48-hour water supply cut every week. The water cut will begin from midnight on Wednesday and extend till Friday midnight.

An official of the water department said, “The original gaothans, slums, Digha area, Airoli village, some areas of Airoli node, Rabale, Gothivli, Ghansoli village, Nocil naka and Turbhe store, among other areas, which get water supply directly through tap connection­s from MIDC will not get any water supply during the water cuts.”

He added, “The water supply to these areas will be of low pressure for the next two days after the water cut. During this period, water will be supplied through tankers in these areas. Some areas will also be supplied water from Morbe dam. The NMMC has made the provisions.”
