Pan­dit Jas­raj to per­form in Kalyan fest

In De­cem­ber, Kalyan res­i­dents can enjoy watch­ing stal­wart Hin­dus­tani clas­si­cal vo­cal­ist Pan­dit Jas­raj to per­form in the Dev­gand­harva Ma­hot­sav, a three-day cul­tural event or­gan­ised by the Kalyan Gayan Sa­maj. This will be the fa­mous vo­cal­ist’s first show in Kalyan.

The Sa­maj or­gan­ises the fest ev­ery year to cel­e­brate its an­niver­sary.

In the past 12 years of the fest, renowned clas­si­cal mu­si­cians such as Zakir Hus­sain, Pan­dit Vishwa Mo­han Bhatt, Begum Parveen Sul­tana and Shubha Mud­gal have en­thralled au­di­ences. Well- known ex­po­nents of clas­si­cal dance have also per­formed in the fes­ti­val, such as Kanak Rele, Jhelum Paran­jape, Ar­chana Joglekar, and So­nia Parchure.

Singers such as Jagjit Singh and Har­i­ha­ran have also re­galed the crowds with their ghaz­als, making the fes­ti­val a highly an­tic­i­pated event in the city’s cul­tural cal­en­dar.

This year, Pan­dit Jas­raj is ex­pected to per­form at the Acharya Atre au­di­to­rium be­fore an au­di­ence of 800 peo­ple. Many other noted artistes will per­form ev­ery evening dur­ing the three­day fes­ti­val, which will be held from De­cem­ber 11 to De­cem­ber 13.

Prashant Dan­dekar, fes­ti­val sec­re­tary, said, “This year we have artists from three gen­er­a­tions giv­ing a vi­o­lin recital. On the first day, N Ra­jam, her daugh­ter Sangeeta Shankar and grand­daugh­ter Ragini Shankar will per­form to­gether on stage. We have al­ready re­ceived a good re­sponse from the pub­lic.”
