In December, Kalyan residents can enjoy watching stalwart Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj to perform in the Devgandharva Mahotsav, a three-day cultural event organised by the Kalyan Gayan Samaj. This will be the famous vocalist’s first show in Kalyan.

The Samaj organises the fest every year to celebrate its anniversary.

In the past 12 years of the fest, renowned classical musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Begum Parveen Sultana and Shubha Mudgal have enthralled audiences. Well- known exponents of classical dance have also performed in the festival, such as Kanak Rele, Jhelum Paranjape, Archana Joglekar, and Sonia Parchure.

Singers such as Jagjit Singh and Hariharan have also regaled the crowds with their ghazals, making the festival a highly anticipated event in the city’s cultural calendar.

This year, Pandit Jasraj is expected to perform at the Acharya Atre auditorium before an audience of 800 people. Many other noted artistes will perform every evening during the threeday festival, which will be held from December 11 to December 13.

Prashant Dandekar, festival secretary, said, “This year we have artists from three generations giving a violin recital. On the first day, N Rajam, her daughter Sangeeta Shankar and granddaughter Ragini Shankar will perform together on stage. We have already received a good response from the public.”
