Women in the city will soon get cleaner toilets. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is all set to receive 12 new toilets for women.

Efforts are on to further improve on the third ranking that Navi Mumbai has received in the country in terms of cleanliness.

After initiating e-toilet facility in the city, a pioneering project of special toilets for women is being planned in the city.

“The Reliance Foundation has confirmed in a letter to NMMC that it will provide 12 of these ‘She’ toilets in Navi Mumbai as part of its CSR activity,” said standing committee chairperson Netra Shirke.

“Through this facility, we are taking steps to resolve the issue of toilets in public places for women in the city,” she said. “As in other cities, in Navi Mumbai too, a large number of women stay away from home for work. They have complained about having to suffer owing to lack of public toilets. It is at times embarrassing for them to use the common toilets which are shared with men.”

Giving details of the ‘ She’ toilet, Shirke said, “Each toilet, costing around Rs12 lakh, will have special facilities such as sanitary napkin vending machines and sanitary napkin incinerators.”

She said, “They will be placed at specific locations that will be chosen after proper survey to ensure benefit to maximum number of women.”
