An unidentified woman aged between 30 and 35 died in a road accident after she was hit by a trailer near Kalamboli steel market on Saturday.

According to the police, the victim was walking along the road around 7am. As she was crossing a circle near the steel market, the trailer, which was also moving in the same direction, hit her from behind.

“The woman suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to MGM Hospital at Kamothe. However, she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later. We have not recovered any photo identity proof from her possession,” said an officer from Kalamboli police station.

After the accident the trailer driver, Kailash Yadav, 33, himself informed the police about it. The police later arrested him.

“We have booked the driver under sections 279 and 304a of the Indian Penal Code and section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. We have also seized his trailer which belonged to a private company,” the officer said.

“We have not found any trace of drink driving in this case. Prima facie it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle. Our investigations are on,” he said.

The police have asked for help from the local residents and employees of the nearby companies in identifying the victim’s body.
