Woman run over by trailer, driver held

An uniden­ti­fied woman aged be­tween 30 and 35 died in a road accident af­ter she was hit by a trailer near Kalamboli steel mar­ket on Satur­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the vic­tim was walk­ing along the road around 7am. As she was cross­ing a cir­cle near the steel mar­ket, the trailer, which was also mov­ing in the same di­rec­tion, hit her from be­hind.

“The woman suf­fered se­vere head in­juries and was rushed to MGM Hos­pi­tal at Kamothe. How­ever, she suc­cumbed to her in­juries a few hours later. We have not re­cov­ered any photo iden­tity proof from her pos­ses­sion,” said an of­fi­cer from Kalamboli po­lice sta­tion.

Af­ter the accident the trailer driver, Kailash Ya­dav, 33, him­self in­formed the po­lice about it. The po­lice later ar­rested him.

“We have booked the driver un­der sec­tions 279 and 304a of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and sec­tion 184 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act. We have also seized his trailer which be­longed to a pri­vate com­pany,” the of­fi­cer said.

“We have not found any trace of drink driv­ing in this case. Prima fa­cie it ap­pears that the driver lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle. Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on,” he said.

The po­lice have asked for help from the lo­cal res­i­dents and employees of the nearby com­pa­nies in iden­ti­fy­ing the vic­tim’s body.
