Gram panchayat to drill borewells for housing societies in Kamothe GARDENS IN THE CITY

To resolve the issue of inadequate water supply in Kamothe, it was decided on Friday that the housing societies facing water shortage will be provided with a borewell which will be drilled in by the Kamothe gram panchayat.

The announcement came following a morcha organised by the Peasants and Workers Party to the City and Industrial Development Cor poration ( Cidco) office in Kamothe to restore adequate water supply to the node and other demands related to Kamothe.

With very little stock of water available in Morbe dam leading to water cuts in NMMC areas, the supply to Kamothe area that falls under Cidco jurisdiction has been curtailed by NMMC. This has led to acute water shortage in the node.

Kamothe requires a supply of 40mld of water, which so far had been supplied by Morbe dam. The below average rainfall this year has reduced the water stock in the dam. With the NMMC having to reduce water supply even within its jurisdiction, which is a priority, it has naturally stopped supply to Kamothe as well.

The PWP morcha from Sector 20 in Kamothe to the Cidco office was led by former MLA Vivek Patil and former zilla parishad president Balaram Patil. A large number of PWP workers and residents participated in the morcha.

A delegation of PWP leaders met Cidco superintendent engineer RJ Giri, Kiran Phanse and executive engineer Dilip Bokade to discuss the issue and submitted a memorandum to them,

Giri said, “The shortage is because we are getting lesser water from NMMC and MJP. We are in discussions to resolve the issue and are confident that a way out of this all will be found soon.”

Following the meeting, Vivek Patil announced, “Cidco is unable to supply water to the node. The societies that are facing shortage will be provided free borewells by Kamothe grampanchayat.”

He added, “It will at least help provide water for daily basic necessities.” Scared Heart School, Vashi students send out a message of saving water during their annual day celebrations.
