Begin your new year with cleanliness drive
VASHI: For those who wish to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a difference, here is a chance to make the city cleaner.
City-based non-governmental organisation Navi Mumbai Networking (NMN) has organised a New Year Eve clean-up party around Vashi highway flyover along Centre One Mall’s parking.
The drive, to be conducted for the third consecutive year, will start from 2 pm on December 31 to 2am on January 1. The non-governmental organisation takes up initiatives to provide opportunities to individuals, institutions, corporates, to network for the betterment of Navi Mumbai.
“Around 60 volunteers, most of them students from various colleges of Navi Mumbai, will participate in this maiden community service activity,” said Sundeep Sharma, founder and president of Navi Mumbai Networking.
He said, “The volunteers will also paint the wall overlooking the highway.”
Sharma said, “It is the people who dirty the highway premises and this initiative will send a strong message that it is our highway and our responsibility to keep it clean.”
Nilesh Kachare, who is leading the operation, said, “It is going to be a challenging task to clean the area adjacent to the Vashi highway flyover. Volunteers in this forum will be the youth.”
The NGO is hoping to have a good number of participants for the event.
