DCP SHAHJI UMAP INDUCTED INTO IPS CADRE
CBD BELAPUR: Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Shahji Umap, a state police service officer with the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), has been inducted into the Indian Police Services (IPS) cadre. The promotion was announced by the state government on Tuesday.
Navi Mumbai police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan formally inducted him into the cadre by affixing the prestigious badge on his uniform at the police commissionerate on Thursday. Ranjan praised Umap for his excellent track record.
Umap is the 11th police officer in the past three decades to have worked in Navi Mumbai as a DCP and is an IPS officer. The first DCPs of IPS cadre were KP Raghuvanshi and Hemant Karkare, who have made an indelible mark on the city.
Originally hailing from Pune district’s Shiru Taluka’s Jategaon Budruk village, Umap who was selected in 1996 for the police force joined Maharashtra police in 1998. Umap said, “It is a huge honour for me to be among the officers held in high esteem. This is God’s gift and result of my hard work and dedication.”
He added, “I will continue to dedicate myself to the services and ensure peace and law and order in my area. I have always received excellent support from the people and look forward to further interaction with them to boost their confidence in the police and also support us in our work.”
