DCP SHAHJI UMAP IN­DUCTED INTO IPS CADRE

CBD BE­LA­PUR: Deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (zone I) Shahji Umap, a state po­lice ser­vice of­fi­cer with the Maharashtra Pub­lic Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (MPSC), has been in­ducted into the In­dian Po­lice Ser­vices (IPS) cadre. The pro­mo­tion was an­nounced by the state gov­ern­ment on Tues­day.

Navi Mum­bai po­lice com­mis­sioner Prab­hat Ran­jan for­mally in­ducted him into the cadre by af­fix­ing the pres­ti­gious badge on his uni­form at the po­lice com­mis­sion­er­ate on Thurs­day. Ran­jan praised Umap for his ex­cel­lent track record.

Umap is the 11th po­lice of­fi­cer in the past three decades to have worked in Navi Mum­bai as a DCP and is an IPS of­fi­cer. The first DCPs of IPS cadre were KP Raghu­van­shi and He­mant Karkare, who have made an in­deli­ble mark on the city.

Orig­i­nally hail­ing from Pune dis­trict’s Shiru Taluka’s Jate­gaon Bu­druk vil­lage, Umap who was se­lected in 1996 for the po­lice force joined Maharashtra po­lice in 1998. Umap said, “It is a huge hon­our for me to be among the of­fi­cers held in high es­teem. This is God’s gift and re­sult of my hard work and ded­i­ca­tion.”

He added, “I will con­tinue to ded­i­cate my­self to the ser­vices and en­sure peace and law and or­der in my area. I have al­ways re­ceived ex­cel­lent sup­port from the peo­ple and look for­ward to fur­ther in­ter­ac­tion with them to boost their con­fi­dence in the po­lice and also sup­port us in our work.”
