Cidco to secure its plots against encroachers, calls for tenders
CBD BELAPUR: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has been taking a number of steps to curb the menace of illegal constructions. Among them is a decision to cover its open plots with boundaries to secure them from encroachers.
Cidco has called for tenders for the work. It believes this will help prevent illegal constructions from coming up on its plots.
Cidco senior public relations officer Mohan Ninawe said, “Cidco has initiated a demolition drive against structures built after 2012. Since the freed plots were not secured, they have once again been built upon. This has negated all the work done by Cidco.”
He added, “Cidco will now construct boundaries at all the plots that are under its jurisdiction. The plots that are freed from encroachment will also be covered.”
The land mafia has been brazenly undertaking illegal constructions in the city. Despite the issue of demolition of illegal buildings in Digha coming to the fore, reports of new illegal constructions are coming up from other areas of the city.
Cidco has reserved several plots for social projects in all the nodes of the city. It has erected signboards on them declaring the plot to be its property.
However, since the plots are not covered, a large number of them have been encroached upon and are being misused by a number of people.
At two plots in Juhugaon, several small businesses have come up. Nurseries, construction materials, Chinese food stalls, among others all have their presence here.
Cidco has planned to take action against constructions that have again come up on plots where the earlier structures were demolished. We will then immediately demarcate the plots.
