42-year-old Uran man held for impregnating minor daughter

NAVI MUMBAI: A 42-year-old man from Uran, who allegedly raped his minor daughter, was arrested on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused works as a security official with a private company. He forced raped his 15-year-old daughter around four months ago when she was alone at home. After committing the crime, he asked her not to reveal it to anyone else.

“The girl is now four months pregnant,” said Abhay Mahajan, police inspector from Uran police station.

The girl is his daughter from his first wife, whom he divorced.

He married for the second time and the couple has a daughter. “His wife was also reportedly not aware of the incident. Some of members of Mahila Dakshta committee learnt about it a few days ago and they spoke to the girl. Later, they convinced her to register an FIR against her father and we arrested the accused on Thursday,” said Mahajan.

“During interrogation, the accused told us that he did not get a son from his first as well as second wife. So, he had sex with his daughter expecting a son from her,” Mahajan said.

The police have booked the accused under sections 376 and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was produced before the judicial court on Friday and has been remanded in police custody till January 20.

“We have not found any criminal record of the accused so far. We are probing if he was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the crime,” said another police officer.
