Marathon, sports meet, food fest on NMMC cards
The sports and cultural committee of NMMC has planned a number of sports events this year along with a food festival for the very first time.
Details of the various programmes planned by the committee were given at a special press meet on Thursday by mayor Sudhakar Sonawane and municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare. Present on the occasion were additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan, deputy municipal commissioner Dadasaheb Chabukswar, Dr. Babasaheb Rajale, NMMC public relations officer Mahendra Konde, among others.
NMMC has planned a marathon, dance and singing competition and a Navi Mumbai food festival.
The marathon will be held on January 24 from Moraj circle on Palm Beach road in Sanpada. NMMC plans to spend Rs 10 lakh on the event that is open for various categories. The winners will get prize money totaling Rs 3.10 lakh.
The group dance and group singing competitions too will be conducted for various categories. NMMC has received 900 applications so far for solo and group competitions.
The auditions for the competition will be held on January 25 and 26 with the final round planned on January 30.
NMMC will spend Rs 7 lakh of which Rs2.96 lakh will be prize money.
To promote the kiosk constructed at sector 15 in CBD Belapur, a food festival has been planned there from February 11 to 14.
The festival will have awareness for the youth on healthy eating and also free medical guidance on the issues like diabetes.
The festival will include 3D, street painting, rock band perfor mance, workshop by renowned chef, presentation of a certificate for attending a one day cooking workshop, making of healthy food and free medical check up of children.
Sonawane said, “We have planned various programmes for all sections of the society to enable every resident to be a part of it. We appeal to all to join us.”
Waghmare said, “We are aiming at all-round development of the city and sports and culture are an integral part of it.”
