NAVI MUMBAI: On the one hand the traffic department is trying to create awareness among the people about road safety, while on the other they are turning a blind eye to the illegal parking at some popular hangout places of the city. Vashi Mini Seashore is one good example of this menace.

A large number of people come to this place for jogging in the morning and evening regularly. However, they have to face numerous problems because of the vehicles parked on the road.

“You will see aroumd hundred vehicles parked on the road every day. We heard people from other areas too come and park their vehicles here as they don’t have parking lot in their housing societies. The traffic department is aware of this fact as they keep patrolling in the area. But we are unable to understand why they are not taking any action against it,” said Rakesh Sharma, 32, a resident of Vashi.

“A joggers’ park should be only for jogging and not for parking vehicles by people from the nearby areas. Everyone should understand this fact well. If parks and gardens are filled with vehicles where will people go spend time. We informed the traffic officials about it several times earlier, but to no avail,” said Manjiri Joshi, 45, another resident.

Senior officer from Vashi traffic division said, “We can understand the problem faced by the joggers. Because of insufficient parking lots in the nearby areas, people have to park their vehicles there. So taking strict action against the owner of the vehicles is also not a solution. We are discussing the matter with civic authorities to find a permanent solution.”
