CBD BELAPUR: The sanitation workers of NMMC will be paid as per the 4th pay commission recommendations. The NMMC will spend Rs 3,08,78,640 on the wages for the next five years.

The resolution was unanimously approved by the general body meeting on Wednesday with opposition leader Vijay Chougule demanding that liftmen too be included in the category.

The personnel at Gaurav Kala Kendra, fire stations, mayor bungalow, cess department, property tax department and so on were earlier paid lumpsum.

There had been a long standing demand that the workers who have been paid low amounts for years, as compared to their colleagues in other departments, be paid higher wages as per the 4th pay commission recommendations.

The move will benefit 32 personnel. Speaking on the resolution, Chougule said, “Though the resolution has come late, we support it fully. We would want the liftmen working in the civic body too to be included in the list.”

Shiv Sena corporator Namdeo Bhagat said, “Why is this resolution for only five years. It should be made a permanent policy. It should also be ensured that these workers get their pay in time.”

House leader J D Sutar said: “Why are workers of community centre, health centre not included. Also, why are these workers not being paid on common pay for common work.”

Deputy municipal commissioner Babasaheb Rajale, “We have presented a resolution for five years so that the work of the contractor can be reviewed every year following which an extension will be given.”

Chougule said, “The extensions are not before the house. Henceforth it should be brought to the general body every time for confirmation.”
