Illegal liquor racket busted at Taloja, two arrested

Taloja police have seized fake liquor worth Rs 2.64 lakh from a flat in their area on Wednesday. Two persons involved in the illegal business have also been arrested.

The police had received a tip- off that some people were manufacturing fake liquor in that flat at Heena Heights.

They raided the flat soon after and made the arrests. The arrested people have been identified as Balaji Rawria, 26, and Ramesh Manodra, 22, residents of the same area.

“The suspects would purchase cheap liquor from the wine shops and mixed them with water. They would also purchase empty bottles of branded liquor from scrap dealers. Later they would filled those bottles with the liquor prepared by them and sell those at some other places,” said a police officer from Taloja police station.

The police are now investigation to find out other people involved in the crime. “Such a business cannot be run by just two persons. So we are trying to find out the other people involved in in. Some scrap dealers might also be involved in it,”

the officer said.

The police have booked the accused under sections 420, 511, and 43 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). They were produced before the judicial court on Thursday afternoon.

A month ago, the Taloja police arrested two persons who were making and selling fake liquor using the same modus operandi. Liquor worth Rs1.5 lakh and thousands of empty bottles were seized from them.
