The Khandeshwar police have registered a case after some unidentified people broke into a flat and stole gold jewellery worth Rs2.97 lakh on Wednesday.

According to t he police, the complainant, Anil Kumar Ramakishan, 46, lives with his family at Mangalmurti Complex at Sector 6.

He and his family went out of town for some work for three days. Returning home on Wednesday, they realised the theft and informed the local police. However, the police have not been able to make any breakthrough till now.

“We have registered a case under sections 454, 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified culprits. We are also interrogating some people based on suspicion but have not arrested anyone so far. We hope to solve the case soon,” said a police officer from Khadehswar police station.

“More and more residents are falling prey to burglars and robbers in the city in recent times. Chain snatching cases are also being reported almost every day. We are doing our best to reduce the number of such crimes in the city, but it is not possible without proper cooperation of the residents.

We therefore appeal to the city residents to follow the given guidelines and cooperate with us to make Navi Mumbai a better place to live in,” said Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
