Kala Talao fest in Kalyan begins on traditiona­l note

Kala Talao in Kalyan ( West) has come alive as its annual festival started on Friday.

Popularly known as Kala Talao Mahotsav, the three-day festival is being organised by Samavedhan­a Pratishtha­n for the past seven years.

F ri day, t he f i rst day of the festival, had a line- up of i nteresting events such as archery, Malkhamb, pottery and chess competitio­n.

The festival will continue till Sunday.

Visitors tried their hands at archery and pottery.

“K a l a Ta l a o f e s t i va l is something we always l ook forward to. The festival along the lake is worth visiting. The archery demonstrat­ion was an attraction today,” said Sachin Kadam, 43, who was at the festival with his two sons.

Every year, t he f estival has a wide range of different enter t ainment events and activities.

On S a t u r d ay m o r n i n g , several paintings based on Swachh Bharat theme would be on display. On Sunday, a live orchestra performanc­e will be attraction. Poems of Mangesh Padgaonkar will also be sung.

President of Samavedana Pratishtha­n Deepak Brid said: “Every year, we organise the festival at this historic place. Footfall increases during the festival. Our aim is to make people aware of the importance of water bodies and preserve them.”

The Kala Talao is spread on 21 acres with a sprawling garden. It is well-preserved and a boating facility for visitors.
