The City and Industrial Development Cor poration ( Cidco) has started constructing recreation centres at three places in Kharghar.

The centres are expected to be opened for the silvers in March. The senior citizens in the node are pleased that they will now have a place of their own to relax and enjoy with their friends in the node.

Even as Kharghar node was developed, Cidco had failed to take into account the needs and requirements of the senior citizens. Hence the local senior citizens had been making use of temples, gardens or roadside trees for their meetings and interactions. They had hence been demanding recreation centre from Cidco.

A Cidco official said, “Taking note of the demand, Cidco has constructed these recreation centres at Krantiveer Balwant

Phadke garden at Sector 12, Zodiac garden at Sector 19 and in the garden located next to Haware Splendour building at Sector 20.”

He added, “Cidco has spent Rs39.33 lakh for the centres each measuring 30 sqm.”

Shekhar Rajput, a visitor at Zodiac garden, said, “These

centres will give us an opportunity to meet large number of senior citizens and make new friends.”

He added, “Together we can enjoy and also discuss how we can continue to be of help to the society.”

Mangesh Patil, a senior citizen living in Sector 12, said: “Cidco needs to waive off the Rs2 and Rs3 entry charges at Phadke garden. Some residents come to the garden twice daily and so it becomes a costly affair for them.”

He added, “Cidco should at least waive off charges for those going to the recreation centre.”
