Around 10 days after a labourer Munne Siddique, 19, fell from a building and died, the police registered a case on Tuesday.

On February 14, Siddique fell from a building at Sector 7 in Kharghar where he was working. No arrest has been made as yet.

The incident occurred at Arya Arcade building. Siddique was working on a tin shed on the terrace of the building when lost his balance and fell, sustaining severe injuries and died on the spot.

Police investigations in the case have revealed that no safety equipment had been provided to the worker which led to his fall to death. The police have registered a case of negligence against the contractor, Vijay Shinde.

The Kharghar police had then registered a case of accidental death and begun its investigations. The police learnt that Shinde had not provided Siddique with necessary security equipment such as safety belt, helmet or a safety net. Hence, the contractor has been held responsible for the death.

The contractor has denied any wrongdoing.

A Kharghar police official said, “Based on our findings a case of negligence causing death has been registered. Further action will follow soon.”
