State-level wrestling contest at Kopar Khairane
A two-day state level wrestling competition will be held in Kopar Khairane on Saturday and Sunday.
The sports meet is being organised by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’ s ( NMMC) sports and cultural committee at RF NaikV id ya lay a ground at Sector 8 of Kopar Khairane, for the fourth consecutive year. The tournament will be held on a mat as per the norms of Maharashtra Rajya Kustigir Parishad, the state wrestling federation.
The inauguration of the tournament will be at 5 pm on February 27, while the award ceremony will be held at 7 pm on February 28.
The prize money of the wrestling event for the Maharashtra State Mayor Trophy title is Rs1 lakh. The runner- up will get Rs50,000 while the third and fourth placed participants will win Rs25,000 and Rs15,000 respectively.
The Mayor Kumar Chashak state title winner will get Rs15,000 cash prize. The runnerup will get Rs 11,000 and the third and fourth placed winners will get Rs7,000 and Rs5,000 respectively.
The state level 65 to 74 kg category and Thane and Raigad district 61 to 70 kg category along with Navi Mumbai area’s 50 kg to 60 kg for under 17 years will have independent awards and cash prizes.
A number of wrestlers who took part in Maharashtra and Hind Kesari wrestling contests are expected to participate in the wrestling tournament.
“Wrestlers f rom various parts of Maharashtra including Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara will converged to engage in the muscle tussle. Our preparations for the competition are on in full swing,” said chairman of NMMC’s sports and cultural affairs committee Prakash More.
