49 caught in drink- driv­ing op­er­a­tion

CBD BE­LA­PUR: In a spe­cial drive con­ducted by Navi Mum­bai traf­fic po­lice on Tues­day, 49 per­sons were caught from driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol.

Ac­cord­ing to deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (traf­fic) Arvind Salve, “From the be­gin­ning of this year, we have been con­duct­ing reg­u­lar drives against drunken driv­ing un­der sec­tion 185 of Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles Act.”

He added, “I had or­dered a sim­i­lar drive on Mon­day, fol­low­ing which we caught 49 mo­torists who had con­sumed al­co­hol be­yond per­mis­si­ble lim­its and were driv­ing their ve­hi­cle.”

The li­cences of those caught will be sus­pended said the po­lice.

Salve said, “We reg­u­larly or­gan­ise aware­ness pro­grammes and ap­peal to the res­i­dents and mo­torists to not drink and drive. It is for their own safety and those of oth­ers. How­ever, un­for­tu­nately, some mo­torists sim­ply throw cau­tion to the wind and take such risks.”

The deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice ap­pealed to mo­torists not to drink and drive.

“We re­quest the mo­torists to de­sist from such ac­tion. We will con­tinue with our drives and en­sure that the roads are safer for all,” said Salve.
