CBD BELAPUR: In a special drive conducted by Navi Mumbai traffic police on Tuesday, 49 persons were caught from driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Arvind Salve, “From the beginning of this year, we have been conducting regular drives against drunken driving under section 185 of Motor Vehicles Act.”

He added, “I had ordered a similar drive on Monday, following which we caught 49 motorists who had consumed alcohol beyond permissible limits and were driving their vehicle.”

The licences of those caught will be suspended said the police.

Salve said, “We regularly organise awareness programmes and appeal to the residents and motorists to not drink and drive. It is for their own safety and those of others. However, unfortunately, some motorists simply throw caution to the wind and take such risks.”

The deputy commissioner of police appealed to motorists not to drink and drive.

“We request the motorists to desist from such action. We will continue with our drives and ensure that the roads are safer for all,” said Salve.
