NMMT offers women 50% discount on ticket fares

NAVI MUMBAI: On March 8, women commuters travelling on Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport’s (NMMT) regular and AC-Volvo buses will have to pay half the ticket price.

The offer is a small way to make the day special for women commuters, said standing committee chairperson Netra Shirke and NMMT chairman Sabu Daniel, who came up with the idea.

“The NMMT has always been finding ways to better serve commuters. We have been thinking of innovative ideas to engage more people into using public transport. With International Women’s Day round the corner, we thought it would be apt to give women 50% discount on the ticket fare for a day,” said Daniel.

“The initiative aims to do something special for women in the city and also urge more commuters to opt for the NMMT bus services. If we get a favourable response, this initiative will be undertaken every year,” said Shirke.

It’s not only women commuters, the NMMT also has plans to show their appreciation to their women employees.

The NMMT administration will organise fun activities at a special function for its women employees at the Turbhe bus terminus on March 7.

On the day, outstanding women employees will also be rewarded for their efforts.
