Mumbra, Kalwa are neglected: Awhad
NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad led a morcha of residents of Mumbra and Kalwa to the MIDC office at Mahape on Thursday.
However, after meeting the officials he said that MIDC water supply is per the schedule.
He alleged that Thane Municipal Corporation that is responsible for internal distribution within its jurisdiction is supplying lesser water to Mumbra and Kalwa residents and giving them a step-motherly treatment.
Navi Mumbai, Thane and Mira-Bhayander municipal areas get water supply from Navi Mumbai office of MIDC.
Due to inadequate rainfall last year, a water cut has been announced all over. MIDC has announced a 40% water cut.
Hence there is no water supply at various places with Mumbra and Kalwa being worst affected, say local residents who were present in large numbers.
Heavy police bandobast was deployed by Navi Mumbai police to ensure no untoward incident took place.
Awhad led a delegation of local corporators in a meeting with MIDC executive officer Prakash Chavan and submitted a memorandum to him.
Chavan said, “The MIDC supplies water to the municipal corporations as per the new policy framed by the state government.”
He added, “It is the water supply department of each local self government that decides on the quantum to be supplied in the various areas of its jurisdiction.”
He said, “We will hold a joint inspection on Saturday by MIDC, TMC water department, local corporators and myself to take stock of the situation on the ground. We will then decide our future course of action.”
