NAVI MUMBAI: Three days after Navi Mumbai anti-extortion cell arrested 14 Bangladeshi nationals from APMC market at Vashi, the New Panvel police arrested four Bangladeshis, including three women, on Friday.

A child was also with the arrested people

According to the police, the arrested people came to the city by illegally crossing the Indo- Bangla border around six months ago. They stayed at Derowli village in Panvel and did odd jobs to earn their livelihood.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided their places on Friday and arrested all of them.

“The arrested man said he had a valid passport which he lost a few days ago. But we did not spare him,” said Sachin Gosavi, assistant sub-inspector of New Panvel police station.

The arrested people were produced in court on Saturday and have been sent to judicial custody.

According to senior officers, there are several agents who bring Bangladeshis to India from their native places.

“Almost 99% Bangladeshis, we arrested in last one- anda- half- year, came to Mumbai through such agents,” said a crime branch official.

“The agents reportedly bring people from Bangladesh in groups at night. Once the people reach West Bengal, they get railway tickets to send them to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. No agent has been arrested in the city so far,” he added.

ACCORDING TO SENIOR OFFICERS, THERE ARE SEVERAL AGENTS WHO BRING BANGLADESHIS TO INDIA FROM THEIR NATIVE PLACES.
