Five unknown men kidnapped and assaulted me: steel trader
THANE: A 36-year-old steel trader was allegedly kidnapped and beaten up by five unknown men on Tuesday.
Gokul Tiwari was going to Kalyan from Ghodbunder Road on his motorcycle in the morning when a Qualis stopped in front of him.
Five men got out of the SUV, covered Tiwari’s face with a black cloth and pushed him into the car.
Tiwari told the police that he was driven somewhere which he does not know. He also said that he was threatened with a weapon, but he could not see what it was as his face was covered.
Around 8pm, he was dropped at Ambernath near MIDC threatening him not to complain to the police.
Tiwari told the police that he suspected that a man with whom he used to do business might be the culprit. The police then questioned the suspect who lives in Powai.
An officer from Kasarwadavli police station said: “The man told the police that Tiwari owed him Rs4 lakh and that he had not returned him the money. Tiwari denied this.”
No one has been arrested. The police said that when the trader was kidnapped, one of the accused took away his motorcycle, keys and his mobile phone. When they let him off, they gave him back the things.
“We are still going through the details of the complaints to ascertain whether they are true. We have written to the RTO to know about the SUV,” said the officer.
The accused have been charged under sections 141, 146, 147, 149, 341, 363, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
