KDMC disqualifies Shiv Sena corporator
KALYAN: The Kalyan- Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) disqualified its elected corporator on Thursday for indulging in illegal construction.
Shiv Sena corporator Mallesh Shetty, who represented ward no 42 Lokgram in Kalyan (East), was also the KDMC standing committee chairman.
He was disqualified after the civic body chief E Ravendiran’s detailed inquiry into illegal construction in Kalyan.
Last year, the civic body disqualified Congress leader Sachin Pote from contesting the KDMC polls. Out of the 120 elected corporators, the civic body has listed 57 who are under scanner for their involvement in illegal construction.
The civic body had sent a notice to Shetty before the civic elections in November last year.
However, no action was taken as Shetty approached the court and submitted his nomination for the election. He won defeating BJP candidate Narendra Gupte with 1,763 votes.
Based on the complained lodged by Gupte in January and as per the court’s guidelines, KDMC commissioner called a meeting with Shetty on March 5 and inquired about his involve- ment in illegal construction.
It was found that Shetty has illegal construction.
Ravendiran then passed an order to disqualify Shetty as a corporator of the civic body for the rest of his tenure.
“As per the inquiry, Shetty’s involvement in illegal construction was revealed based on which he has been disqualified for the rest of his tenure as a corporator,” said Ravendiran.
