Upto ` 5K fine for peeing, littering in public soon

NEW DELHI: To implement Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission in urban areas, the Centre has directed all states to start levying spot fines for littering and open defecation by April 30. Peeing or littering in public places will invite a penalty ranging between Rs200 and Rs5,000. Besides levying fines, the ministry has set a strict time frame for states to provide adequate number of public toilets and ensure facilities for garbage

collection and disposal.
