Uran, Panvel roads to be widened in 2 yrs

URAN: As a solution to the rising traffic towards JNPT, the central road transport department and state road transport ministry have decided to widen the two roads.

The road f rom JNPT to Palaspe Phata national highway 4B and JNPT ( Karal) to Amra Marg, Navi Mumbai state highway 54 to 6 and eight lanes will be widened.

According to an official of National Roads Developmen­t Authority, “The road widening will ensure service roads on both highways for light vehicles and two-wheelers.”

On August 16 last year, the work of widening the national highway 4B and state highway 54 to 6 and 8 lanes had been inau-

gurated.

Act 1956 issued a notificati­on for land acquisitio­n.

Widening of the two highways will help curb the regular traffic snarls on the highways. Work on the road widening is expected to start soon.

According to National Road Developmen­t Authority, Uran Panvel division project officer, Prashant Phegde, “During the road widening work of 43 km stretch from JNPT ( Karal) to Gavhan Phata there will be service roads for the villages along the route. Hence, on the roads on which the heavy vehicles ply, the light vehicles and two-wheelers will be banned.”

He added, “It will help prevent accidents on roads due to the heavy vehicles.”

Phegde said, “Work on the project will begin in April and will be completed in two years.”

The official said, “The road will be widened to 36 metres with service roads on both sides for the villages. We are sure this will reduce accidents on the route.”
