Uran, Pan­vel roads to be widened in 2 yrs

URAN: As a so­lu­tion to the ris­ing traf­fic to­wards JNPT, the cen­tral road trans­port depart­ment and state road trans­port min­istry have de­cided to widen the two roads.

The road f rom JNPT to Palaspe Phata na­tional high­way 4B and JNPT ( Karal) to Amra Marg, Navi Mum­bai state high­way 54 to 6 and eight lanes will be widened.

Ac­cord­ing to an of­fi­cial of Na­tional Roads Devel­op­ment Au­thor­ity, “The road widen­ing will en­sure ser­vice roads on both high­ways for light ve­hi­cles and two-wheel­ers.”

On Au­gust 16 last year, the work of widen­ing the na­tional high­way 4B and state high­way 54 to 6 and 8 lanes had been inau-

gu­rated.

Act 1956 is­sued a no­ti­fi­ca­tion for land ac­qui­si­tion.

Widen­ing of the two high­ways will help curb the reg­u­lar traf­fic snarls on the high­ways. Work on the road widen­ing is ex­pected to start soon.

Ac­cord­ing to Na­tional Road Devel­op­ment Au­thor­ity, Uran Pan­vel divi­sion project of­fi­cer, Prashant Phegde, “Dur­ing the road widen­ing work of 43 km stretch from JNPT ( Karal) to Gavhan Phata there will be ser­vice roads for the vil­lages along the route. Hence, on the roads on which the heavy ve­hi­cles ply, the light ve­hi­cles and two-wheel­ers will be banned.”

He added, “It will help pre­vent ac­ci­dents on roads due to the heavy ve­hi­cles.”

Phegde said, “Work on the project will be­gin in April and will be com­pleted in two years.”

The of­fi­cial said, “The road will be widened to 36 me­tres with ser­vice roads on both sides for the vil­lages. We are sure this will re­duce ac­ci­dents on the route.”

The widened roads will make space for sep­a­rate ser­vice roads for light ve­hi­cles and two-wheel­ers.
