Mum­bra man, 2 sons at­tacked with sword, bat

THANE: A 50- year- old gar­ment shop owner and his two sons were at­tacked by four peo­ple at Mum­bra in Thane on Fri­day.

It was high drama on the street as the four men chased two brothers, As­lam and Arif Sid­dhiqui, and at­tacked them with a sword and a bat.

Two peo­ple have been ar­rested.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened when the four men were of­fer­ing ‘ na­maz’ at Sam­rat Na g ar mosque.

They were about to fin­ish their prayers when the two brothers, in their twen­ties and from the same lo­cal­ity, crossed them from the front. This an­gered the four men.

Af­ter the prayers, the four peo­ple ap­proached As­lam and Arif out­side the mosque and af­ter a heated ar­gu­ment started beat­ing them up.

In­ves­ti­ga­tion of­fi­cer G Gaik­wad from Mum­bra police sta­tion said, “The two youths’ un­cle in­ter­vened and stopped the four from thrash­ing the two.”

But, the four were not done yet.

“The four men then chased them on a bike and started beat­ing them up. See­ing the com­mo­tion, the youth’ s fam­ily mem­bers rushed out to stop the men,” said Gaik­wad.

The youth’s fa­ther, An­war, who has a small gar­ment shop, was beaten up badly when he in­ter­vened.

“An­war was hit with the bat and at­tacked with the sword. He has se­ri­ous in­jury to his head. He was taken to Thane civil hospital.

“The f our were charged un­der sec­tion 307 ( at­tempt to mur­der) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code. Two have been ar­rested,” said Gaik­wad.

The police are in­ves­ti­gat­ing from where did the men get the sword and bat.

The ar rested peo­ple are Mo­hammed Kh­waja Shaikh, 32, who works as a civil con­trac­tor, and Javed Ma­jeed Shaikh, 29, who does odd jobs.
