Stolen items worth ` 16L recovered, 4 held
BELAPUR: A container driver who instead of transporting the container to its destination had fled with the consignment for sale elsewhere has been arrested by Uran police.
Police have managed to recover Rs 16 lakh worth of the Rs 18 lakh worth consignment that was stolen. The accused driver has been identified as Pankajkumar Singh, 24.
The complainant transporter Piyush Bhanushali had handed over Rs 18,67,640 worth of plastic granules for transportation from Uran to Bhiwandi. When the consignment did not reach its destination, he complained at Uran police station.
Said police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan, “Our investigations revealed that Singh had instead of taking the consignment to Bhiwandi, fled with it to Chinchwad area in Pune, where he had sold it to a businessman.”
Uran police picked up Singh from Pune following the information.
Said Ranjan, “He revealed that he had sold the consignment to one Rahul Bora. He had taken the help of two people Pramod Chougule (29) and Navdeep Lavande (25). We have arrested Bora for purchasing stolen property and the other two for helping in the crime.”
He added, “We have managed to recover Rs 16,67,088 worth of the stolen property.”
