VASHI: Gudi Padwa is almost here and the APMC market is flooded with all that is required to make this occasion one to remember.

The most important part of the festival which is the gudi is available in a variety of shapes in the market.

The smallest one would come for Rs200 while the medium-sized gudis range from Rs320 to Rs450. The large ones cost around Rs1,000.

The gudis look similar to the one that is made at home. The readymade gudis work for those who won’t get time to make one at home.

The cloth which covers the gudi is available in a variety of material. It comes in red, green, yellow. They are available from Rs400 to Rs2,000, depending on the material and the decoration.

The other popular item in the market is the garland

that one can put over the Gudi once it is covered with the cloth. The price of a

garland ranges from Rs100 to Rs1, 000 depending on its size. One of the vendors in the market, Hairsh Bhise, said, “Gudi Padwa is the occasion to welcome the New Year with happiness. That is the reason the customers have been coming to us.”

“The sales have been very good and we expect them to peak a day before and on Gudi Padwa day,” added Bhise. The market is full of customers buying all kinds of materials that one needs for the festival. Ragini Patil, one of the shoppers, said, “I normally make the Gudi every time, but this year I did not have enough time and hence I am here to buy a readymade Gudi. There is great variety here.”

“It’s all about welcoming the New Year in grand style and I do not want to lag behind. I am leaving no stone unturned to ensure we have a great day,” added Patil.
