Take your pick of colour­ful ready­made gudis

VASHI: Gudi Padwa is al­most here and the APMC mar­ket is flooded with all that is re­quired to make this oc­ca­sion one to re­mem­ber.

The most im­por­tant part of the fes­ti­val which is the gudi is avail­able in a va­ri­ety of shapes in the mar­ket.

The small­est one would come for Rs200 while the medium-sized gudis range from Rs320 to Rs450. The large ones cost around Rs1,000.

The gudis look sim­i­lar to the one that is made at home. The ready­made gudis work for those who won’t get time to make one at home.

The cloth which cov­ers the gudi is avail­able in a va­ri­ety of ma­te­rial. It comes in red, green, yel­low. They are avail­able from Rs400 to Rs2,000, de­pend­ing on the ma­te­rial and the dec­o­ra­tion.

The other pop­u­lar item in the mar­ket is the gar­land

that one can put over the Gudi once it is cov­ered with the cloth. The price of a

gar­land ranges from Rs100 to Rs1, 000 de­pend­ing on its size. One of the ven­dors in the mar­ket, Hairsh Bhise, said, “Gudi Padwa is the oc­ca­sion to wel­come the New Year with hap­pi­ness. That is the rea­son the cus­tomers have been com­ing to us.”

“The sales have been very good and we ex­pect them to peak a day be­fore and on Gudi Padwa day,” added Bhise. The mar­ket is full of cus­tomers buy­ing all kinds of ma­te­ri­als that one needs for the fes­ti­val. Ragini Patil, one of the shop­pers, said, “I nor­mally make the Gudi ev­ery time, but this year I did not have enough time and hence I am here to buy a ready­made Gudi. There is great va­ri­ety here.”

“It’s all about wel­com­ing the New Year in grand style and I do not want to lag be­hind. I am leav­ing no stone un­turned to en­sure we have a great day,” added Patil.
