Children will now learn the traffic rules and road safety the fun way in a park.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has planned to develop a children and traffic park at an estimated cost of Rs4 crore.

The park will be developed on a 4.75-hectare plot in Kavesar, along Ghodbunder Road in Thane.

The proposal was tabled in the general body meeting recently.

The municipal corporation has planned to devise shortterm, mid-term and long-term solutions for the increasing traffic congestion in the city.

“We regularly take up different measures to deal with the traffic congestion in the city. However, it is important that every citizen of Thane, be it young or old or schoolchildren, know traffic rules. They should also be aware of safety norms to be followed while driving or walking, follow signals and abide by the parking rules,” said a civic official, requesting anonymity.

The park will play a vital role in bringing all the information together. It will display traffic rules, explain signals, lane markings, zebra crossing, informatory, regulatory and mandatory signs on the roads, speed limits and traffic sense of the vehicle owners among others.

“There will be displays, demonstrations, slide shows, workshops, seminars, exhibition and street plays regularly in the park. The park will also have a gallery to display the ongoing traffic improvement projects in the city,” he added.

The park will have exhibition centres, audio visual rooms and washrooms. “Children can enjoy nature and also learn safety rules. Schools can also organise one day picnic at this park,” the official said.
