With Akshaya Tritiya a day away, jewellers in Navi Mumbai are pinning their hopes for a turnaround in demand after a period of slow demand coupled with a month-long strike over 1% excise duty.

Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, symbolises prosperity and regarded as the best time to buy gold. The day is celebrated by both Hindus and Jains.

Several new ventures are also started on this day as no other day is deemed as auspicious as Akshaya Tritiya. People worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on the festival day.

Sensing an uptick in the business during the festive season, jewellers have announced various schemes and discounts to attract customers.

With shops teeming with customers in Navi Mumbai, jewellers are leaving no stone unturned to make the festival count.

“It is festive time and we want our customers to enjoy it in the

best possible manner. Of course, we are facing problems because of the government’s new laws, but we want our customers to make the most of the opportunity as this is the best time to purchase gold,” said Veeru Dutta, store manager of Senco in Vashi.

“I feel the best investment that one can make in today’s

period and in a traditional country like India would be in gold. It is very beneficial for one’s future too,” he added.

Senco is offering a cash scheme of Rs1 lakh, Rs100 off per gram on making charges, 10% off on diamond jewellery, free gold coin on purchase of above Rs1 lakh and also three dinner vouchers for three lucky

couples.

An employee of Atlas Jewellery located in Sector 30A of Vashi said, “We are going all out to woo the customers. We are offering 0% making charges on gold coin and 100% off on making charges on diamond jewellery.”

“We are also offering free gold coin with every purchase of Rs20,000 and above,” he added.

“The market conditions are not good and so far there is no huge rush of customers in the market. We are hoping things will be good on the auspicious day,” another jeweller said.

Nikita Jewellers at Sector 17 in Vashi has come up with exclusive schemes for their customers.

Chetan Bagrecha, vice-president of Nikita Jewellers, said, “This is an important day for our patrons and we want to give them the best as far as the ornaments and associated services are concerned.”

He added, “Akshaya Tritiya has as a festival helped us in gaining a large number of customers who then become our regular customers. The festival marks a good beginning for us and our customers as well.”

Like most jewellers, he too is looking for a rise in sale. “We are confident that there will be a large number of customers who will come on the auspicious day and we will do good business,” he said.
