NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai police are examining the cases registered against real estate developer Raj Kandhari to check if there was any other reason behind this suicide.

Kandhari shot himself in his head at his Sanpada residence on Monday afternoon. After being in hospital for a day, he died in MGM hospital on Tuesday evening.

Since 2008, a total of 15 cases were registered against Kandhari at different police stations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Kandhari, on the other hand, registered two cases against some people during this time, the police said.

“We are examining the cases, but nothing concrete have come to our hands so far. We will talk to his family members again on Thursday to get some clues. So far, financial crisis seems to be the only reason of the suicide,” said Shahaji Umap, deputy commissioner of police (zone 1).

After the post mortem was conducted at NMMC hospital in Vashi, his body was handed over to his family on Wednesday.

According to the medical reports, shock and hemorrhage due to firearm injury over skull, was the cause of his death.

Kandhari’s funeral was conducted at Turbhe on Wednesday afternoon in the presence of his family, friends, local politicians and real estate developers from the city. The developers wore black arm bands to protest the alleged harassment by the ‘system’.

Arvind Goel, chairman of Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI), Navi Mumbai said, “The police may say many things now. But we are sure that Kandhari committed suicide because of acute financial crisis and the system is solely responsible for it. To protest this we have planned lots of activities from next week onwards.”

“On Saturday we will speak to the media and reveal out action plan,” he said.

Umap said, “We are still not though with the investigation and hence cannot come to a conclusion about anything. So it will be too early if the developers stage some protests at this stage.”
