Unclog city: Mahape Pfizer road opened for heavy vehicles

CBD BELAPUR: Municipal commissioner Tukaram Munde has granted permission to the city traffic police department to allow heavy vehicles to ply on Mahape Pfizer road from ThaneBelapur road.

This will ensure less traffic snarls on the busy ThaneBelapur road.

Due to the ongoing work of flyovers by MMRDA on Thane Belapur road at three junctions, there have been constant traffic snarls on the road lately.

With the MMRDA planning to begin work on an underpass at Mahape soon, Navi Mumbai traffic police department had sought permission from municipal commissioner Munde to allow traffic diversion from Mahape Pfizer road.

Deputy municipal commissioner Jagannath Sinnarkar, said: “At the time, pipe culvert work was on at 3 to 4 places and it was being done by shutting access to half the road and allowing traffic on the remaining half of the road. It would not have been possible to complete the work without such restriction.”

He added, “The traffic department’s permission was required. The traffic department sought the municipal commissioner’s permission to divert traffic from Thane-Belapur road to Mahape Pfizer road.”

Munde then took the initiative and asked the traffic department to grant permission for blocking of half the road on Mhape Pfizer road for pipe culvert work to be completed.

The permission was given by the traffic department.

On getting the permission, Munde ordered his officials to complete the pipe culvert work at the earliest.

Sinnarkar said, “The establishment department of the NMMC with help from the traffic department then completed the work in 15 days. This has enabled the road to be opened for heavy vehicles.”

He said, “The decision by the commissioner has helped curb the traffic menace on the busy Thane-Belapur road which will benefit thousands of motorists.”
