Woman auto pas­sen­ger killed in Uran ac­ci­dent

NAVI MUM­BAI: A 27-year-old woman from Katkar­vadi in Uran died af­ter the auto she was trav­el­ling in was hit by a dumper on Go­van­phata-Shirner road on Fri­day.

The auto driver also suf­fered in­juries and has been ad­mit­ted to a hos­pi­tal.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Gu­lap Gad­kari was trav­el­ling in the auto to­wards Go­van­phata around 11.45 am. Sha­hana Gaik­ward also a lo­cal res­i­dent of the area was driv­ing it.

“A dumper which was com­ing from op­po­site di­rec­tion rammed into the auto. Gad­kari suf­fered se­vere in­juries on her head and other parts of her body in the ac­ci­dent. She was rushed to a nearby hos­pi­tal but was de­clared dead by the doc­tors af­ter some­time. Gaik­ward is now re­cu­per­at­ing in an­other hos­pi­tal,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Uran po­lice sta­tion.

The dumper driver fled the spot leav­ing be­hind the ve­hi­cle just af­ter the ac­ci­dent. The po­lice are now search­ing for him.

“We think the dumper driver lost his con­trol on the ve­hi­cle and ended up hit­ting the auto. We hope to ar­rest him soon. A case un­der sec­tions 304a of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) and un­der rel­e­vant sec­tions of Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act has been reg­is­tered against him,” he said.

The po­lice sent the vic­tim’s body to Uran civil hos­pi­tal for con­duct­ing post­mortem and then de­liv­ered it to her fam­ily. The post-mortem re­ports are yet to come.
