Woman auto passenger killed in Uran accident

NAVI MUMBAI: A 27-year-old woman from Katkarvadi in Uran died after the auto she was travelling in was hit by a dumper on Govanphata-Shirner road on Friday.

The auto driver also suffered injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.

According to the police, Gulap Gadkari was travelling in the auto towards Govanphata around 11.45 am. Shahana Gaikward also a local resident of the area was driving it.

“A dumper which was coming from opposite direction rammed into the auto. Gadkari suffered severe injuries on her head and other parts of her body in the accident. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead by the doctors after sometime. Gaikward is now recuperati­ng in another hospital,” said a police officer from Uran police station.

The dumper driver fled the spot leaving behind the vehicle just after the accident. The police are now searching for him.

“We think the dumper driver lost his control on the vehicle and ended up hitting the auto. We hope to arrest him soon. A case under sections 304a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against him,” he said.

The police sent the victim’s body to Uran civil hospital for conducting postmortem and then delivered it to her family. The post-mortem reports are yet to come.
