NAVI MUMBAI: Five months on since the additional commissioner of Navi Mumbai, VR Chauhan was transferred to Pune, his post is still vacant.

The state is yet to appoint a new officer to fill the vacancy.

Chauhan, who had replaced Fateh Singh Patil in May last year, was transferred to Pune as the IGP of wireless in the second week of January.

With no officers appointed, the workload on other officers has increased manifold in the past five months.

Prashant Khaire, deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) was transferred to city zone 1 around a month ago. The headquarters post has also been lying vacant since then. Khaire took over the post in city zone 1 after his predecessor Shahaji Umap was transferred to Mumbai on May 12.“One officer has already been appointed as DCP (headquarters) in the city. However, he has not been released from his existing post and that’s why he has not been able to join,” said a senior officer from the police commissioner’s office in CBD Belapur.

“We however, don’t have any idea about the appointment of a new additional commissioner of police,” the officer said.

The additional commissioner of police in Navi Mumbai handles traffic, crime, administration and other important branches of the department. “Even as the post is lying vacant, we are not facing any administrative problem,” he said.
