Key posts ly­ing va­cant in city po­lice

NAVI MUM­BAI: Five months on since the ad­di­tional com­mis­sioner of Navi Mum­bai, VR Chauhan was trans­ferred to Pune, his post is still va­cant.

The state is yet to ap­point a new of­fi­cer to fill the va­cancy.

Chauhan, who had re­placed Fateh Singh Patil in May last year, was trans­ferred to Pune as the IGP of wire­less in the sec­ond week of Jan­uary.

With no of­fi­cers ap­pointed, the work­load on other of­fi­cers has in­creased man­i­fold in the past five months.

Prashant Khaire, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (head­quar­ters) was trans­ferred to city zone 1 around a month ago. The head­quar­ters post has also been ly­ing va­cant since then. Khaire took over the post in city zone 1 af­ter his pre­de­ces­sor Shahaji Umap was trans­ferred to Mum­bai on May 12.“One of­fi­cer has al­ready been ap­pointed as DCP (head­quar­ters) in the city. How­ever, he has not been re­leased from his ex­ist­ing post and that’s why he has not been able to join,” said a senior of­fi­cer from the po­lice com­mis­sioner’s of­fice in CBD Belapur.

“We how­ever, don’t have any idea about the ap­point­ment of a new ad­di­tional com­mis­sioner of po­lice,” the of­fi­cer said.

The ad­di­tional com­mis­sioner of po­lice in Navi Mum­bai han­dles traf­fic, crime, ad­min­is­tra­tion and other im­por­tant branches of the depart­ment. “Even as the post is ly­ing va­cant, we are not fac­ing any ad­min­is­tra­tive prob­lem,” he said.
