With the new academic year beginning on Monday, the education department of NMMC has made arrangements for distribution of free books to the students of Classes 1 to 10 of all civic and aided schools in the city.

Education department officials said the school uniform and other stationery will be handed over to them within a fortnight of the schools reopening.

The NMMC has 68 schools that have Classes 1 to 8 with a

strength of 30,852 and 17 schools that have Classes 9 and 10 with students numbering 4,984.

There are also 95 balwadis with the total strength of 5,500. The student strength of aided schools in the city is 34,300.

An education department official said, “The primary

school students will get uniform, shoes, socks, school bag, raincoat and PT uniform and books.”

He added, “The secondary school students get two uniforms, shoes, socks and books. The students of Classes 9 and 10 will get free books.”
