Two triplemurders were reported in and around Mumbai on Thursday morning.

In Malvani, two children and their grandmother were stabbed to death in their home early on Thursday, while in Ulhasnagar, a couple and their younger son were murdered with axes in their home.

In the Malvani case, the police suspect the family knew the killer, while the Ulhasnagar murders are suspected to have been committed by members of the Phase Pardhi gang. No arrests have been made yet in either case.

Residents of Saabri Cooperative Housing Society in Malvani discovered the bodies Aryan Shaikh, 13, his sister Sania, 10, and their grandmother Babli Shaw, 47, around 10am on Thursday.

The killer had slit Aryan’s throat and stabbed Sania and Shaw with a kitchen knife. The police said the large amount of blood in the house and the nature of Shaw’s injuries suggested that she had tried to fight the killer to save her grandchildren.

The murders at Karavle village in Ulhasnagar are believed to have been committed between 1am and 5am.

The victims were identified as Shankar Namdev Bhandary, 62, a farmer, his wife Fusabai Shankar Bhandary, 50, and their son Shani Shankar Bhandary, 22, who graduated from college earlier this year.

All three died of axe wounds to the head.

The police recovered two axes from their home.
