Panvel council waits for upgradation PHOENIX GHARANA TO PERFORM AT KALYAN
The process of giving Panvel Municipal Council the status of a corporation has been delayed.
After a government resolution was issued, suggestions and objections had been sought from residents over the proposal.
Almost 4,000 suggestions and objections have been submitted to the district collector. The hearings are yet to be conducted on the suggestions and objections submitted. Even after a month of the process being initiated, there has been no progress on the proposal.
An official of Raigad collector office said, “The Konkan commissioner will soon conduct hearings on the corporation. However, no date has been finalised.”
The proposed PMC includes the city and residential areas of Panvel municipal council, 29 villages of City and Industrial Developmental Corporation (Cidco), 36 areas of NAINA and 11 villages of MMRDA area. A population of 5.95 lakh from the city as well as 68 villages has been included in the corporation.
The ward demarcation of Panvel Municipal Council has recently been released. Ten new wards have been formed. There is speculation that elections for the council will be held in December.
There were reports that hearing on the suggestions and objections for the corporation will be held in June-end. However, with this not happening, the process of formation of the corporation seems to have slowed down. Hence the council elections will be held first.
Even as the corporation is proposed to be established, there are some organisations in Kharghar and also some politicians who have opposed merger in the proposed corporation. This has led to speculation on whether Kharghar will be included in corporation.
An official said, “That will be clear only once the hearing is conducted. The hearing could be conducted by July 15.”
