Taloja is all set to get 13,810 houses for lower income group.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (Cidco) mass housing scheme is estimated to cost Rs2,045 crore.

Cidco sources said tenders have been called for the project with work expected to begin in the next two to three months.

The nodal agency is planning to exclude the land cost from the prices of the house to bring down the prices. To ensure that the project quality is as poor as its previous projects, Cidco has decided to demand a guarantee of 10 years from contractors.

Cidco has constructed 1.5 lakh houses for various income groups. It has plans to construct 55,000 houses by December 2019. The first phase work of building 13,810 houses has begun.

The first phase too has been divided into two. In the first stage 7,179 houses will be constructed which will cost Rs1,320 crore. In the next three years, Cidco is planning to complete the construction of the remaining.

The houses will have an area of 308 square feet for economically weaker sections and 370 square feet for lower-income group houses.

According to Cidco joint managing director V Radha, “A total of 55,000 houses will be constructed in Navi Mumbai by 2019.”

She said, “To achieve the target, a new mass housing scheme will be initiated every year for the next three years. The housing schemes will come up at Ghansoli, Vashi, Pachnand and other areas.”
