Two students on a scooter died in a freak accident at Sion on Thursday morning after the driver of a double-parked car allegedly opened a door of his vehicle, forcing the scooter rider to swerve out of the way. He lost control and the two young men were struck by a speeding bus travelling in the opposite direction.

According to the Sion police, the victims are Kushal Omprakash Yadav and Shravan W Borana, both 20 years old and residents of Antop Hill. The accident occurred on the road opposite Champalal estate building in Sion (West) around 8.30 am.

The state government on Friday reacted to a report by Hindustan Times on 15 government servants held guilty of corruption by various courts across Maharashtra are yet to be dismissed, while 154 government servants facing corruption cases are yet to be suspended.

HT, on July 25, had published an article “15 govt officials guilty of graft yet to be dismissed”. Reacting to the HT report, the government, in a letter, said “Chief Secretary (CS) of Maharashtra Swadhin Kshatriya had taken review of pending cases regarding suspension and dismissal of public servants trapped in Anticorruption bureau (ACB) cases on July 20th when at that time 175 public servants were to be suspended and 29 public servants were to be dismissed.”
