‘Negligent’ NMMC engineer suspended

Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe suspended Kailas Gaikwad, a branch engineer of the town planning department of NMMC. He has been accused of negligence in work in two instances.

The suspension follows a series of similar orders earlier by Mundhe since taking over charge in the city.

According to additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan, “Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has stressed on work discipline among civic officials and personnel to ensure that the quality of civic services is improved and that residents get them in time and per their need.”

He added, “Disciplinary action is being taken against officials and personnel found to be negligent in their work.”

Chavan said that Gaikwad had received complaint on illegal charges for parking at Inorbit mall in Vashi. “It has come to our notice that he neglected the issue and did not take any action on it,” said Chavan.

He said, “We are in receipt of a calling attention motion of Maharashtra state legislative council under rule 101. It states that NMMC officials have ignored complaint against illegal parking fee and are not taking any action against the mall.”

On yet another complaint against Gaikwad, Chavan said, “Despite work on a building structure on plot number 3 and 4 of sector 19D in Vashi not having been completed, he had submitted a false report for issue of occupancy certificate.”
