Woman raped by money lender

A 29-year-old woman from Dom­bivli has al­leged that her mother-in-law forced her to have a phys­i­cal re­la­tion with a man who had lent her money.

The man, An­thony Joseph Sa­muel, 30, raped the woman more than four times. A res­i­dent of Navi Mum­bai, the ac­cused is an au­torick­shaw driver. He has been re­manded in po­lice cus­tody till Au­gust 13.

In March, the woman’s 62-year-old mother-in-law bor­rowed Rs10,000 from Sa­muel. She promised to re­pay him by June.

Jayen­dra Bhoir, po­lice in­spec­tor from Man­pada po­lice sta­tion, said, “In June, Sa­muel kept pes­ter­ing her to re­turn the money. One day in July, the woman called her daugh­ter-in-law and Sa­muel to her place.”

She told her daugh­ter-in-law to sit in a room and then sent Sa­muel in­side. She locked the door from out­side. Sa­muel raped the woman and told her about the money her mother-in-law had taken. The ac­cused had also threat­ened the woman against telling this to any­one.

Bhoir said, “The ac­cused told the woman that he would throw acid on her and her hus­band if she dis­closes this to any­one. We have ar­rested Sa­muel while the woman is ab­scond­ing. We have sent the vic­tim for med­i­cal test.”

A week ago, a case was reg­is­tered with the Ra­bale po­lice sta­tion in Navi Mum­bai.

As the in­ci­dent took place in Dom­bivli, it was trans­fer to the Man­pada po­lice sta­tion on Tues­day. Sa­muel has been booked un­der sec­tion 376 (pun­ish­ment for rape), 506 (pun­ish­ment for crim­i­nal in­tim­i­da­tion) of 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.

A 23-year-old woman was at­tacked by her drunk father af­ter she re­fused to give Rs2,000 for al­co­hol. The woman stud­ies in a Thane col­lege and the po­lice re­fused to di­vulge her name.

Ashok Dhen­gle, 55, at­tacked her with a knife at their Kol­she­wadi home in Kalyan and also beat up his younger daugh­ter and wife. Dhen­gle is an al­co­holic and he used to work in a pri­vate com­pany.

On Tues­day, Dhen­gle went home drunk and wanted to drink more. When his fam­ily ob­jected to his drink­ing, he got an­gry. Saju Jhon, po­lice in­spec­tor from Kol­she­wadi po­lice sta­tion, said, “Dhen­gle has two daugh­ters. The 23-year-old daugh­ter was at­tacked with a knife on her neck.”

Dhen­gle He was ar­rested and re­manded in po­lice cus­tody till Au­gust 13. The woman has been ad­mit­ted to a Kalyan hos­pi­tal and is out of dan­ger.
