Woman raped by money lender

A 29-year-old woman from Dombivli has alleged that her mother-in-law forced her to have a physical relation with a man who had lent her money.

The man, Anthony Joseph Samuel, 30, raped the woman more than four times. A resident of Navi Mumbai, the accused is an autoricksh­aw driver. He has been remanded in police custody till August 13.

In March, the woman’s 62-year-old mother-in-law borrowed Rs10,000 from Samuel. She promised to repay him by June.

Jayendra Bhoir, police inspector from Manpada police station, said, “In June, Samuel kept pestering her to return the money. One day in July, the woman called her daughter-in-law and Samuel to her place.”

She told her daughter-in-law to sit in a room and then sent Samuel inside. She locked the door from outside. Samuel raped the woman and told her about the money her mother-in-law had taken. The accused had also threatened the woman against telling this to anyone.

Bhoir said, “The accused told the woman that he would throw acid on her and her husband if she discloses this to anyone. We have arrested Samuel while the woman is absconding. We have sent the victim for medical test.”

A week ago, a case was registered with the Rabale police station in Navi Mumbai.

As the incident took place in Dombivli, it was transfer to the Manpada police station on Tuesday. Samuel has been booked under section 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on) of 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

A 23-year-old woman was attacked by her drunk father after she refused to give Rs2,000 for alcohol. The woman studies in a Thane college and the police refused to divulge her name.

Ashok Dhengle, 55, attacked her with a knife at their Kolshewadi home in Kalyan and also beat up his younger daughter and wife. Dhengle is an alcoholic and he used to work in a private company.

On Tuesday, Dhengle went home drunk and wanted to drink more. When his family objected to his drinking, he got angry. Saju Jhon, police inspector from Kolshewadi police station, said, “Dhengle has two daughters. The 23-year-old daughter was attacked with a knife on her neck.”

Dhengle He was arrested and remanded in police custody till August 13. The woman has been admitted to a Kalyan hospital and is out of danger.
