Kharghar, Kalam­boli res­i­dents now un­der CCTV sur­veil­lance

The res­i­dents of Kharghar and Kalam­boli may now have a bet­ter sense of se­cu­rity as the Navi Mum­bai po­lice have started mon­i­tor­ing 128 CCTV cam­eras in­stalled in th­ese two nodes.

The CCTV com­mand cen­tre on the sec­ond floor of Belapur rail­way sta­tion was in­au­gu­rated on Mon­day. The po­lice and of­fi­cials of the pri­vate com­pany are mon­i­tor­ing the cam­eras 24x7.

The de­tec­tion of hit-and-runs, chain-snatch­ing cases and other street crimes will be eas­ier as all ma­jor junc­tions are un­der CCTV sur­veil­lance.

“The com­mand cen­tre is only for the cam­eras in­stalled in Cidco ar­eas. The town planning agency will in­stall a to­tal of 574 cam­eras in their all their nodes like Kamothe, Khan­desh­war, New Pan­vel, Ulwe among oth­ers,” said Pradeep Kan­nalu, as­sis­tant com­mis­sioner of po­lice CCTV com­mand cen­tre at Belapur rail­way sta­tion was in­au­gu­rated on Mon­day.

NMMC had ear­lier in­stalled 266 cam­eras in their ju­ris­dic­tion (from Airoli to Belapur) and th­ese cam­eras are now be­ing mon­i­tored from one com­mand cen­tre at the po­lice com­mis­sioner’s of­fice in Belapur. The Navi Mum­bai traf­fic po­lice are also us­ing th­ese cam­eras to is­sue

e-chal­lans to the vi­o­la­tor of the traf­fic norms.

A se­nior Cidco of­fi­cer said, “We are planning to con­struct a big CCTV com­mand cen­tre in the po­lice com­mis­sioner’s of­fice. Af­ter the build­ing is ready, all cam­eras of NMMC and Cidco’s ju­ris­dic­tion will be mon­i­tored from there.”
