Kharghar, Kalamboli residents now under CCTV surveillan­ce

The residents of Kharghar and Kalamboli may now have a better sense of security as the Navi Mumbai police have started monitoring 128 CCTV cameras installed in these two nodes.

The CCTV command centre on the second floor of Belapur railway station was inaugurate­d on Monday. The police and officials of the private company are monitoring the cameras 24x7.

The detection of hit-and-runs, chain-snatching cases and other street crimes will be easier as all major junctions are under CCTV surveillan­ce.

“The command centre is only for the cameras installed in Cidco areas. The town planning agency will install a total of 574 cameras in their all their nodes like Kamothe, Khandeshwa­r, New Panvel, Ulwe among others,” said Pradeep Kannalu, assistant commission­er of police CCTV command centre at Belapur railway station was inaugurate­d on Monday.

NMMC had earlier installed 266 cameras in their jurisdicti­on (from Airoli to Belapur) and these cameras are now being monitored from one command centre at the police commission­er’s office in Belapur. The Navi Mumbai traffic police are also using these cameras to issue

e-challans to the violator of the traffic norms.

A senior Cidco officer said, “We are planning to construct a big CCTV command centre in the police commission­er’s office. After the building is ready, all cameras of NMMC and Cidco’s jurisdicti­on will be monitored from there.”
